Reviews and Ratings
I had the most wonderful view from my room and it was extremely comfortable. However, I felt that the rooms were overpriced compared to similar hotels, especially since I had a 'garden room view' which was smaller than expected for the price I paid.
The junior suite was very nice, with a lovely balcony view, although somewhat overlooked by other guests. The room was beautifully decorated and had a fan to cope with warmer weather. The hotel is ideally located, overlooking the River Exe between Exeter and Exmouth, creating an idyllic setting. The dining experience provided excellent dishes, but the knowledge of local restaurants was lacking. The service was attentive, albeit not always visible, and the staff were perfectly pleasant.
My stay at the hotel overlooking the Exe estuary was a delightful experience. The individually themed rooms with wonderful art throughout and a lovely balcony with a view were a real highlight. However, the rooms felt a little small. The service, while mostly wonderful, lacked knowledge about local restaurants and distances. The location, although excellent with a beautiful view of the estuary, had some issues with hard-to-reach plugs. The dining experience, especially the evening meals with locally sourced ingredients, was outstanding, but the breakfast quality was not as high. Overall, the hotel offers a beautifully decorated setting with standout dining experiences, yet there are minor room size issues and limited service knowledge that could be improved.
Arriving back at the hotel after a delightful Michelin star dinner was a treat, but the room size felt a bit small for the price. The individually themed rooms with captivating art around the hotel added a unique touch to the stay.
I had the most wonderful view from my room, and it was extremely comfortable. However, the room was a little on the small side, but it was not where I wanted to spend much time due to the relaxation it offered.
I was truly impressed with No 1 Magpie. The disabled room I stayed in was very spacious, clean, and decorated to the highest standard. The staff were incredibly kind, providing outstanding service throughout my stay. The location, with stunning outdoor sculptures, was absolutely idyllic. While the dining experience was slightly disappointing, overall, I had a delightful time.
